2016, series of 180:00 minute durational actions
For the Naked State Art Residency, I approached the call to “explore the nude human body in context of nature, culture and art” by queering the relationship between the body, nature and the natural. Throughtout the residency I engaged in a series of durational actions in various locations around the park. In some cases, I inserted my own body as a queer presence in the natural environment. In others, human-made materials as queer objects, resulting in temporary performance-installations.
I lay, covered in purple glitter, on the forest floor.
I clothed the trees in reflective mylar survival blankets, tied with silver gift wrapping ribbon.
I constructed a temporary camping installation of intersecting tarpaulins, penetrated by holes and strung up with pink rope.
I gazed at my reflection in the shape-shifting, reflective surface of a survival blanket floating on the water.
